The Importance Of Water and Human Health

I'm dying of thirst!"

Well. We just might. It sounds so simple. H20. Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen. But this element, better known as water, is the most essential, next to air, to our survival. Water truly is everywhere, still most take it for granted.

Water makes up more than two thirds of the weight of the human body, and without it, humans would die in a few days. The human brain is made up of 95% water, blood is 82% and lungs 90%. A mere 2% drop in our body's water supply can trigger signs of dehydration: fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on smaller print, such as a computer screen. (Are you having trouble reading this? Drink up!) Mild dehydration is also one of the most common causes of daytime fatigue. An estimated seventy-five percent of Americans have mild, chronic dehydration. Pretty scary statistic for a developed country, where water is readily available through the tap or bottle.

Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. The body cannot work without it, just as a car cannot run without gas and oil. In fact, all the cell and organ functions made up in our entire anatomy and physiology depend on water for their functioning.

* Water serves as a lubricant

* Water forms the base for saliva

* Water forms the fluids that surround the joints.

* Water regulates the body temperature, as the cooling and heating is distributed through perspiration.

* Water helps to alleviate constipation by moving food through the intestinal tract and thereby eliminating waste- the best detox agent.

* Regulates metabolism

In addition to the daily maintenance of our bodies, water also plays a key role in the prevention of disease. Drinking eight glasses of water daily can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50% and it can potentially even reduce the risk of breast cancer. And those are just a few examples! As you follow other links on our website, you can read more in depth about how water can aid in the prevention and cure of many types of diseases, ailments and disorders that affect the many systems of our bodies.

And you know what the best news about drinking water for health benefits is? It's virtually free! You can drink over 4,000 glasses of tap water for the price of a six-pack of your favourite cola.

The Relationship Between Menopause and Depression

Is there a relationship between menopause and depression? Yes, there is, and a lot of women are having a hard time dealing with them.

More than a million women go through depression even when they are still in the pre-menopausal stage, and a good number are worried simply because they may never have shown any sign of the medical condition until now.

If you are having menopause, understanding the connection between depression and your situation will help ease your mind. You will discover that you are not alone, there are solutions available, and it is not your fault you are going through it.

What Causes Depression among Menopausal Women?

There are different reasons why menopausal women undergo depression, but they can be summed up into two: hormones and personal perception.

Hormones play a huge role in women. Females produce a hormone known as estrogen, and a lot of bodily functions, including reproduction, and physiological developments are attributed to it. Estrogen, moreover, is responsible for the production of serotonin and dopamine, which are sometimes called happy hormones since they provide the positive mood.

When a woman goes through menopause, the level of hormones produced is no longer the same. Estrogen level goes down, and along with it is the slower production of serotonin. Thus, you are more prone to feeling depressed or anxious.

Another reason is a woman's perception of herself. It is not unusual for you to feel unwanted, unloved, and worthless when you are already in menopause. You can no longer bear a child, you feel old and attractive, your skin starts to sag, you sweat all the time, and you are susceptible to diseases such as high blood pressure. Your metabolism slows down, so it is more difficult to get rid of the unwanted body fat.

Help with Depression

How do you exactly cope with menopausal depression? There are too many ways.

The first thing you should do is to approach your doctor. He or she is the best person who can diagnose and provide you with the most suitable medication. Not all medicines will work for you, especially if you suffer from high blood pressure or other cardiovascular diseases.

Over the years, the concept of hormone replacement therapy or HRT became very popular. As its name suggests, the purpose of the treatment is to maintain the level of estrogen in the body and limit the signs and symptoms of menopause, like irritability, hot flushes, and insomnia. However, a number of studies have come up, revealing the possible complications of HRT, such as the increased risk of breast cancer.

Before you decide on HRT, discuss it thoroughly with your doctor.

There are also natural ways of overcoming depression. Depression help may come in the form of subliminal messages, which provide positive images and statements into your mind. When your mind is thinking positively, the rest of the body seems to be in a much better shape.

Some of the subliminal messages may focus on acceptance, love, hope, and self-appreciation.

How Overweight Women Can Get Rid of Stomach Fat

It is important for women to get rid of stomach fat because this type of fat can increase the risk of serious diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers. Whether you have always had trouble with weight gathering around your waist or this is a problem that began as you grew older the way to get rid of it is the same, through the right diet and exercise strategies. If you are overweight and need to get the fat off then I encourage you to take a couple of minutes to read on.

Get rid of stomach fat

1. Give your metabolism a boost with strength training. This is not always what women want to hear but I would be leaving out an important tip if I did not include working out. The amount of muscle you have plays a big role in how well your metabolism burns fat. Men tend to carry more muscle and this is why they typically have faster metabolisms but anyone, male or female, can get rid of belly fat through strength training.

Add 3 sessions a week working with weights, bands or just the resistance of your body. You can complete the exercises in less then 30 minutes and don't shy away from exhausting the muscles with heavier weights, you want to push them so they grow.

2. Refined carbs can block fat burning. Refined carbohydrates break down almost as quick as you eat them and this causes a spike in your insulin levels, when this happens your body opens up it's ability to make fat and shuts down it's ability to burn fat. Go for whole grains and aim for carbs with at least 3 grams of fiber per serving.

3. Don't go low-fat. It can be hard to believe but your body needs good fats in your diet in order to burn body fat. Good fats that you should increase are olive oil, natural fats from nuts, avocados and fish oils (Omega-3 fatty acid supplements work well).

4. Cut stress. Easier said then done but this is a goal worth achieving because stress stimulate the release of cortisol a hormone that can increase your body's ability to make belly fat.

You can get rid of stomach fat when you get these tips working in your life.
